Decode 4 Key Ways to Get Clear About Your Passion

We all have a passion. We came here on this earth for a reason. That reason is to do what we love to do, and to impact the world in some way. Many of you may know this to be true, but you don’t have a clue what you want to do. You don’t know what is the special something you are meant to do. I understand, because a few years ago I was in your shoes. I went into the teaching profession and for a while I liked it. I loved to see students learn and progress. However, I learned teaching is more than just instructing. You need to discipline kids. I worked with primary school children at the time. Not long afterwards, I realized that I was not meant to do it. What taught me this lesson, you may ask? I was not able to  discipline a class. As a result, I got fired.  I remember feeling devastated. I worked for eight years to become a teacher. When I started working I was proud of my accomplishment. Then I lost it all. This is when I asked myself, what was I really meant to do?

For a while I took on several jobs which didn’t work out either. One day my husband got a job in a small city. We decided to have another child. This is when I started to think about what I really wanted to do with my life. I remember praying and asking God to give me guidance. This guidance came to me in 2004. It was a snowy day in January. I felt like a complete failure. I was sad and depressed. I opened the TV at four pm like I usually did to watch the Oprah Winfrey Show. That day ended up being different than other days however, because the show helped me discover the possibility to be and do something completely different with my life.

What surprised me the most is that it was possible! I started to learn everything I could about this “secret” and am here to tell you it is important to follow your passion and make it a reality. Will it manifest into something big? I don’t know. As Oprah has said, each of us has a different calling. Not all of us are meant to be millionaires. Some people care about having a non-profit organization and it is their way of bringing passion into the world. For others, their passion remains a hobby or is a sideline to their day job.  In order to live a passionate life, one where you do what you love, you must feel fulfilled. Therefore, for each person the definition of living a passionate life looks different.

How do you get clear on what is your passion? I will share with you what has worked for me. I found some of this information in a Jack Canfield and D.D. Watkins book: The Key to Living the Law Of Attraction.

4 Key Ways to Get Clear About Your Passion:

  1. Find out your mission in life:  What impact do you want to create in this world? What would you change in this world? What would you help people with?
  2. Find things you are good at: What are your skills? What do you like? What are some of your talents? What are your strengths? A skill can be computer skills. A strength can be that you are very compassionate with people. A talent can be talent to paint, act, sing, speak. What activities do you enjoy most? Do you like to be around people or work alone? Why? What are some activities you can do for hours and never get tired of doing?
  3. Look at who you admire: What do you admire about them? Why? Then, take a very deep look at yourself and see which ones you have. I admire Oprah Winfrey very much. Oprah Winfrey is wise, influential, an achiever, compassionate, and kind. I am wise, an achiever, compassionate and kind. Now it is your turn.
  4. Draw a picture of yourself: After you have drawn this picture, write out all the qualities you see in front of you. Look at your picture from an objective point and try to see who do you think you can be. What occupation can you have?

By really looking and exploring inside yourself  using these tools, you can find more clarity on how you want to spend the rest of your life. Working in a job you love is very important for you and the people around you. When you feel happy, you radiate this happiness around you. I believe it is important to take the time and ask yourself these questions. As you go through this journey of self-discovery, it will help you to make a very important decision. It doesn’t matter what your age is, you can follow your passion and your mission in life. It doesn’t need to necessarily be a career, it can be a hobby. Please do not hide from your calling. Listen to it and live it, so you won’t have any regrets.

I’m disappointed to hear that what you love could possibly just be a hobby. then what the whole 0oint of following a ” career ” you love.

      Hi Carla,

What I meant is that some people prefer to have it as a hobbie and not a career. Some people are just too scared to start thinking about their passion as a career so my idea is to motivate people to start so if someone is too scared they can start as a hobbie. There are some other people who have a strong desire to turn their passion into a career. This is great. Everyone is different. There is no need to be disappointed. Each person has a unique desire which may be different than yours. You probably desire this as your career, go for it. 🙂
